Nyota (name changed), a woman whose husband and her father had been killed by the rebels, escaped from Eastern Congo. She fled to Nairobi and did not know where her three children together with her mother had been left. Not long time ago, Nyota came to Father Peter Meienberg in tears. She had discovered that her mother and children were living in a refugee camp in Brazzaville – 2000 kilometres west of Eastern Congo, and that her cousin had just died of cholera. Her children had come down with the same terribly dangerous illness. She therefore asked, for heaven’s sake, to be helped so that her children would be admitted to a hospital. Father Peter immediately sent money to Brazzaville.
In the meantime her children are doing well again; but Nyota still needs more professional counselling to get rid of her deeply traumatic experiences.
